Bloemfontein Road · White City, London W12

Our residential street has become unliveable. No one is acting.

Bloemfontein Road is a street of homes. Every day it fills with queuing traffic. Drivers sound their horns repeatedly, day and night. They drive onto the pavement, block junctions and go through red lights, buses included, and the law is not enforced. A traffic light at the Uxbridge Road junction that stays red too long has made it worse since May 2026. Residents have reported all of this to Transport for London, Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the Metropolitan Police. Nothing has changed, and no organisation has taken charge.

The problem

What happens at the junction, every day

When the light stays red, traffic queues back along Bloemfontein Road. Residents have filmed the same things happening again and again, at all times of day and at weekends.

Going through a red light, including buses

Drivers give up waiting and cross on red, where people are walking and cycling.

Road Traffic Act 1988, s.36
Highway Code rules 175–176

Driving on the pavement

Vehicles mount the pavement to get round the queue.

Highway Act 1835, s.72
Highway Code rule 145

Stopping in the cycle box

Vehicles stop in the advanced stop line reserved for cyclists at the Uxbridge Road lights.

Road Traffic Act 1988, s.36
Highway Code rule 178

Blocking the junction

Queues stretch across the KEEP CLEAR marking at the junction with Bloemfontein Avenue.

Highway Code rule 151
(KEEP CLEAR is an advisory marking)

Horns while stationary, day and night

Drivers sound their horns repeatedly in the queue, including at around midnight on 12–13 October.

Highway Code rule 112

Road rage

Frustrated drivers turn aggressive towards other road users and residents.

Our elected representatives

Andy Slaughter MP and local councillor Frances Umeh have been copied into residents’ emails, and on 13 October were asked to help bring the council, TfL and the police together. Other residents have also written to them. We would welcome their support.

To the Mayor of London

What we are asking the Mayor to do

The Mayor chairs Transport for London, which runs the signal and the bus network.

  1. Fix the signal now, and publish the dateTreat this fault with the urgency TfL would give a signal knocked down in a crash. The danger is the same.
  2. Stop buses going through the red lightMake sure the bus companies running routes through this junction brief their drivers and check that it has stopped.
  3. Get everyone round the tableBring TfL, Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the Metropolitan Police together to agree who enforces what at this junction, then act on it.
